Actually the rules are very clear that the software may NOT be put up for download at any time during the contest. There are various reasons for this, such as:
1. it makes the end of the competition a really festive event.
2. it makes sure each participant, who is also a judge(!), is not distracted from his own projects.
3. it makes sure each entry receives equal time for judging.
4. it allows games to be available commercially during the contest period, in order to minimize the 'need' for half-finished advertisment games. (It is considered easier for other participants to ignore commercial offerings during the development period, than an internet download)
Yes, #msxdev compo is the same contest as the msx banzai! contest, but #msxdev compo is the official name.
Actually there is no "MSX Banzai! contest", the #msxdev Compo 2012 is simply hosted on MSX Banzai! webspace, just like MSXdev'11 was hosted on msxblue.com. Other than providing webspace, MSX Banzai! has nothing to do with the contest.
