I agree with you !!! There was a great game, I had it on C64 ... And I suppose there is no need of solve sprites problems, because there was little amount of sprites at the same time ...

Sprites are too much for the msx1 vdp. However it's easy to workaround this mixing with charater gfx. The result will be brilliant and graphically good.

Well, I've just seen the video. It seems easy to port, specially because the road does not rowscroll as some games such as outrun or chase hq. Anyway, the scrolling seems pretty nice, I'll try to grab it out there to test it on an emulator

Or maybe a screen 2? I've no idea about the technique used in those games to achieve a "3d" view of the road in perspective. Only imagine that they use different tilesets, but i do not know how they manage them.

Umh, it's similar to another msx game ported from speccy, one of the rare msx racing games from electric sw. (do not remember the title) However is slow, i remember a version running in the old days on a pc in cga gfx . Even on a 8mhz pc was sllllllowwwwww. The C64 version is not an exception. I do not think a msx version will be better.

I think that the fastest car game made in Europe was probably CRAZY CARS, by Titus. Too bad that the game itself is so boring, 'cause the graphics are nice although monochrome. On the other hand, CHASE HQ and WEC LEMANS are rather fast too. With "rather fast" I mean that they are playable on a regular MSX1 computer. Other Speccy ports aren't playable at all: CONTINENTAL CIRCUS, OUTRUN, ANGEL NIETO, etc. Sooo slooooooooooow.
Some "pure" MSX games are ok, such as HANG ON by SEGA, or even SPEED KING, published by Mastertronic. Of coure, Konamis are living legends: HYPER RALLY, ROAD FIGHTER, F1/A1 SPIRIT. But regarding 3D racing games for MSX1, HYPER RALLY hasn't been matched yet.

I remember back then I played Power Drift too and it was pretty cool for an speccy conversion. I remember a japanese ROM racing game, in wich the car goes through impossible loops and such, it was pretty cool but I don't remember its name: it was a hyper rally type of game (the car moves, not the track itself) but with lots of loops and twists in the circuit. Anyone? [edit: ok, it is COASTER RACE, by Sony]

Actually, POWER DRIFT is a cool game is played at R800 CPU speed, but it does suck at regular Z80 speed.
Regarding COASTER RACER, it was one of my favourite games. I played it for hours until I finished it.
