This game i got inspired from the Atari2600 NightDriver (and similar arcade games,
like 'Datsun 280 Zzzap' (if i'm not mistaking)) - The idea is using those red/green
anagram glasses - maybe the first anagram game developed on a msx1 machine?

A question for the assembler skilled people: is the z80 processor fast enough for this?

Using sprites (the fastest method) could be doable; but it would suffer badly from flickering even keeping no more than 8 sprites per line. You can use magnified ones (max. 32 pixels) to optimize the number of planes used. Of course I'm not thinking on the red/blu pairs only white ones (like in zzzzap, what a great game!) , in the first case I think that there're too much mobile objects.
If you use char blocks you can move it for sure at enough speed; but the movement would be jerky specially the furthermost columns. Maybe a mixed approach could be used, sprites for the furthermost columns and characters the nearest ones. Just guessing...

This seems fairly simple. I think MSX is fast enough for this.
I would use sprites only for the cars, the road can be done like this using characters. You can store most characters in VRAM, and just update the name table. For some edge cases, you can use dynamic characters, or dynamic colors.

BTW, 'anagram' means something else in english. It means mixing the letters of a word to make another word. See for example http://users.tinyonline.co.uk/gswithenbank/anagindx.htm
And isn't this the spanish section?  :P

Indeed GuyveR800 is correct, it's the spanish section ::); so I believe that it must be moved to the "Suggest a game" area...

Anyway it seems a cool concept!. And the cartridge version could be bundled with simple red-blue glasses too!  :o :o :o :o

Check this vendor/anaglyfic section: http://www.3dglassesonline.com/  ;) ;) ;) ;)

I would use sprites only for the cars

We can save all of this CPU time 'cause there's no cars on zzzzap, only a first person view of the road, this could sound pretty uninspiring; but the original game is very addictive due its game speed, the road flows very smoothly. Although being a simple concept it could be difficult to achieve the same experience on MSX machines :)

thanks all feedback! :-)

the idea is it - making true new games and way of gaming on msx - bringing fresh air after 25 years - of course not offending the purists (since i'm also a bit one of them as well ;-) )

Youtube video looked nice, but it is really different looking than Night Driver or Datsun 280 Zzzap. Those both games have great Nite Time Cruising feeling!

Night Driver:

Datsun 280 Zzzap:

I once played Datsun 280 Zzzap arcade machine in the 90s, and it was great feeling to play that ancient black´n´white racing game!!! Speed felt just like in real car!

I remember that Commodore 64 conversion of "Night Driver" ((c) 1982 I think) had nicely done red hood of your car to add realism! :)  (bit like seeing front of your X-wing fighter in 'Star Wars' except hood was filled, not wireframe)

Hopefully someone converts Night Driver for msx! :)

by the way... Night Driver and Datsun 280 Zzzap have different crash sequence.

Datsun has ´sound effects´ onscreen. (WAM! etc..)

In Night Driver windshield breaks.

Datsun has better looking speedometer! ;)

Maybe converter should use best parts of both two almost same looking games?
