The problem is that 16kb for an adventure game like this is not enough memory Sad
Im sure that this game has created a good engine for future adventure games, bigger ones, with music, intro, more graphics, etc...etc...

Beyond the specific game, the interesting thing about this entry is the engine...

How does it work? Which features it has?
Beyond basic movement, objects and object-scenery interaction, I've seen (beware of the spoilers!):
- walkable/non walkable zones: it's based on tiled? has an specific map?
- triggers: to open the basement
- events: specific actions when you walk into some specific tiles
- modifiable screens: the bridge
Item cursor is generated dinamically from the tile definition? That's cool Cheesy
Also, how's the map defined? I guess you have a set of screens linked to the screens you can go to. The cove has more than one screen and weird links between them, right?

Some minor bugs/glitches: I think sprites are shown 1 pixel below they should. And there should be a DISSCR/ENASCR (or at least, disable the sprites) when changing screens: sometimes, during one frame, you see the new screen but the sprites in the old position.

I'd love to see how this engine grows, and evolves, and brings us some great games!
Congratulations!

I think this kind of games will be never created in msx. I was wrong. Easy to play an addictive, children will love it.

Most than the game itself, the value of this entry is the engine and the possibilities it brings. It's quite original in the MSX world and I hope to play bigger and better games out of this engine in a near future! Good work! Wink

Yes, I also think the engine is greater than the game itself, and hope for MSX adventure games with this (improved)engine in the future. It is the reason I've put Stan The Dreamer in my top 3.

An adventure game!!  Grin ... I like adventure games!! Smiley  I'm sorry but I hasn't been able to advance to much.   Huh
As some other people say, I think the most important thing is that is a first step toward to create a big adventure game.
I would like to see a big adventure of this kind!!  Grin
Congratulations and continue with the good work!!

Great one! I hope, as some others already pointed out, that you can reuse this adventure engine, and make something a bit bigger. Really loved it, but it needed music, and more detailed story and gfx to shine a bit more into the contest. Anyway, a really promising approach, and something we are not use to see on MSX. Can't wait to see what you can come up with this adventure engine, keep up the good work! and congrats for the release!

This is another game that it has surprised me, it's a kind of game not usually seen in MSX, but it's shame the 16 kbs size limit, because with a bigger size, the adventure would be a lot better.

I really like to see that point and click adventure games are possible on MSX-1! The game itself is not as important as the fact that we have now a nice engine for point and click games. Congrats!

However, as this is a game contest and not a game-engine contest, I must say that the game itself is not one of my favourites.

Regarding the engine, I think it should be adapted to fit more into the MSX capabilities. For example, clicking to move the player to a certain area is not good at all unless a path-finding algorithm is implemented or pre-computed paths are stored. Also, even if mouse can be used, the engine shoud pay more attention to keyboard-based users.

Nonetheless, very nice idea, nice engine, but not-so-nice game (which does not mean it is a bad game, but obviously some others in this dev are better)

Firstly, the engine it's very good and is a solid base to make more games like this. I like a lot graphics, agility and simplicity to control the scene. But I played some games and always I loose in the caveeeeee!  Cry One time I found the key but discouraged me that it seems random and difficult to make a map of the cave. I played other game hours later and I didn't remember the combination of movements and I cannot find it again. With an easier cave to let me play more and any more music it should be my favorite game without doubt. I will be expectant to next games with this engine!

I must say, I have the cave mapped in my mind. First time, yeh, it was a bit complicated. Second time it was fast, and now I remember the exact path even after been 2 days without playing it. So it's not so hard. And no, don't ask Tongue Play.

Like I said on the other post of this thread: 16kB its too small for a game like this.
A good adventure  game needs a lot of screens, characters, history... lots and lots of graphics... a good design....
With 16kB, the work realized on this game is very good... but not enough.  Im sure that this game engine is going to give us very good adventure games, sure.

By the way, the game doesnt works on Casio PV-7, something strange happens with sprites, its like a dirty cartridge glitch.  The engine works, but the sprites on screen seems crazy.
